Arsenal 3 Fulham 3

Giroud 11′ Berbatov 29′
Podolski 23′ Kacaniklic 40′
Giroud 69′ Berbatov (PEN) ’67

After Lukas Podolski chipped in his second goal of the season to put Arsenal up 2-0, the Gunners
looked primed to leave Fulham in the dust and take suspense out of the rest of the match.
However, some sloppy play allowed the Cottagers to get right back into the game and eventually take the lead after Bulgarian star man Dimitar Berbatov stepped up and coolly sank a penalty shot in the 67th minute.

Fulham’s lead was short lived. Arsenal came storming back down the pitch to tie the game just minutes later when a cross by winger Theo Walcott was buried in the back of the net by Olivier Giroud for his second goal of the day.

Both sides then looked content to settle for a draw until Fulham defender Sascha Riether handballed an Andrei Arshavin cross inside the box with about 20 seconds to go in stoppage time.

Mikel Arteta’s penalty kick was stopped by 40 year old Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer to end the game. It looked to be a sure goal, and it appeared that even Schwarzer was surprised he got a hand on it. Arsenal fans are sure to be upset that Arteta was selected to take the penalty instead of forwards Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud.
Note: Coming into the match, the Cottagers had never won at Arsenal, losing 22 and drawing only 4 of the teams 26 meetings.
